2011 WAGONMASTER

It would seem Larry Clegg was born destined to become a wagon master.

From his childhood setting of Clarkson Valley to the current LE Ranch horses have always been a part of his life.

Working farm fields at a young age and riding pastures at 15 prepared him for the sport that was beckoning him. With the influence of his friend, Dale Trottier, rodeo became part of his life. That lasted for 10 years and succeeded in bringing him one step closer to chuckwagons.

Driving horses was a natural progression, for the reins always felt at home in his hands. From his first race in Rio Grande to joining the WPCA in 1996 Larry’s wagon became a well-known figure on the track; his team of four matching grey thoroughbreds were always a delight for the spectators.

Larry’s list of involvements and accomplishments are many – setting a chuckwagon track record in Teepee Creek, winning the Ft. McMurray dog sled race and driving a four horse stage coach in a documentary film are only a few.

Larry, with his wife Ena-Mae, has passed on the love of this lifestyle to their family. Their daughter, Terri, was a Miss Rodeo Grande Prairie and went on to win Miss Rodeo Canada Princess. She currently is a pharmacist working in Beaverlodge. Son Darwin works as a consultant for Shell Canada and lives the farm life in Crooked Creek with his wife Keely and their two children.

Family time is Larry’s main priority now with trapping his full time vocation. The chuckwagon reins may not be in his hands quite as often, but you can rest assure the horses are in his life.
