Every year, many organizers come together to help put on the Grande Prairie Stompede and annually, one outstanding committee member is recognized for going above the call of duty. This year, the award was presented to Jason Skene.
“Our Stomper joined the board this year to lend his expertise in our sponsor VIP area,” said Ross Mather, last year’s Stomper of the Year and committee member. “He’s also played an important role in other aspects. He’s forgot to learn how to say ‘no’ which is a blessing for us. Jason is really a good guy to have because when everybody is on your back, he comes up with something we can laugh about.”
Skene said it was a true honour to receive the award, especially it being his first year on the board.
“I spend a lot of time in the background, just helping out. I love the sport of rodeo and chuckwagons, grew up doing both my whole life,” he said. “It’s a great organization, a great committee. I’ve never had as much fun. My wife is on the board. It’s a lot of fun. I’m pretty proud to win it. It means a lot because everyone works really hard to bring this together. Everyone is the winner of the award in my eyes.”
