Miss Grande Prairie Stompede 2019

Thank you for expressing your interest in participating in the 2018 Miss Grande Prairie Stompede (Miss GPS) Pageant. Being selected as an ambassador for the Grande Prairie Stompede and the Professional Sport of Rodeo and Chuckwagon Racing is an incredible opportunity.

The purpose of the Miss Grande Prairie Stompede Pageant is to bring together a group of young ladies to participate in the opportunity to create a solid foundation for her future and enrich her life experiences while creating lifelong friendships. The pageant provides a fair and equitable competition to select the best qualified candidate to fulfil the role of Miss GPS 2018.

We encourage all participants to read through the application package and familiarize yourself with the information and requirements. The following checklist includes what the applicant is required to submit in order to be eligible for the pageant:

  • Point form resume on plain white paper
  • Copy of driver’s license
  • Complete application form
  • Signature on the Miss GPS Rules and Regulations form
  • $50.00 Entry non-refundable fee

Completed application forms must be submitted prior to April 1st 2019

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a female who is between the ages of 17 and 24 as of may 15th 2019
  • Never have been married, pregnant, had a child, or pleaded guilty of a criminal offence
  • A Canadian Citizen
  • Hold a valid driver’s license which has never been suspended
  • Never have held a Miss Grande Priarie Stompede title

Resume Requirements:

  • A resume no longer than 2 pages must accompany the application. The document must be typed and organized in the applicant’s personal style. Must be on plain while paper

Photographs:

  • The Grande Prairie Stompede Association supplies a professional photographer to take photos of each contestant during the pageant; however, applicants are encouraged to supply a photo with their application

    1. This position requires a dedicated time commitment traveling to distant and local events. Miss Grande Prairie Stompede (Miss GPS) must be female, never been married, and have never been pregnant. If Miss GPS becomes pregnant or married during her reign, she will forfeit her crown and all the benefits from the pageant.
    2. Miss GPS will fully commit 1.5 years to the reign of her title and fulfil her appearance obligations as directed.
    3. A contestant may compete in up to 3 Miss GPS Pageants.
    4. Miss GPS must have a current and valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle for the year of her reign.
    5. Miss GPS must reside within 3 hours of the Grande Prairie area
    6. The Pageant consists of the following events:
      • a. Prepared and impromptu speech
      • b. Modeling
      • c. Horsemanship
      • d. Personal interview and resume
      • e. Written rodeo and horsemanship exam
      • f. Overall appearance, poise, and personality

      A variety of judges will be carefully selected for each event of the pageant to remain fair and equitable

    7. Miss GPS must own a horse or have a horse available to her for her reign. Stud horses are not accepted
    8. Miss GPS must own a horse/stock trailer or have a horse/stock trailer available to her for her reign
    9. Contestants must be able to attend all functions during the competition, including weekday and weekend appearances May 29th to June 2nd 2019.
    10. It is expected that all contestants and the queen will dress, have personal hygiene, and act in accordance with the position they hold. Meticulous care in general grooming is essential for a contestant to be considered for the title of Miss GPS. Participants should be aware of what constitutes fashionable and current western dress.
    11. Miss GPS should have the ability to project her personality. Education and conversational ability is vital; intelligence and common sense play a big factor in this position. A sense of humor, showmanship, ambition, desire, enthusiasm, commitment, professionalism, and a general happy posture are considered assets. Negative or controversial actions or comments reflect poorly on Miss GPS and the organization.
    12. Miss GPS must give a written report to the queen committee at the end of her reign. This report will give a summary of functions attended, problems encountered, and suggestions to better the Grande Prairie Stompede program.
    13. Miss GPS is encouraged to keep all lines of communication open with the Queen Committee during her reign.
    14. Miss GPS must not approach existing or potential sponsors for further sponsorship. If an interest is expressed, the information must be communicated to the Miss GPS committee.
    15. Miss GPS is not a salaried or paid position
    16. Miss GPS must receive prior authorization from Miss GPS Coordinator prior to making any purchases that would constitute a reimbursement
    17. All appearances must receive prior approval from Miss GPS Committee
    18. Miss GPS is expected to maintain appropriate decorum at all times
    19. Miss GPS is not permitted to participate in any promotional or advertising other than what is sanctioned by the Miss GPS committee
    20. Miss GPS must not consume alcohol, illegal drugs, or tobacco products at any Rodeo and/or Chuckwagon events or likewise functions in which she is representing her position and/or the GP Stompede Association during her reign. It is requested that this statute is honored in all aspects of Miss GPS daily life during her reign where a situation could influence her position as a community ambassador
    21. Miss GPS will enter into an agreement with the Miss GPS Committee and the Grande Prairie Stompede Association immediately following her crowning
    22. Miss GPS must not consume alcohol, illegal drugs, or tobacco products at any Rodeo and/or Chuckwagon events or likewise functions in which she is representing her position and/or the GP Stompede Association during her reign. It is requested that this statute is honored in all aspects of Miss GPS daily life during her reign where a situation could influence her position as a community ambassador
    23. Miss GPS will enter into an agreement with the Miss GPS Committee and the Grande Prairie Stompede Association immediately following her crowning

    I HEREBY AGREE TO ABIDE BY THE RULES AND REGULATIONS PERTAINING TO THE MISS GRANDE PRAIRIE STOMPEDE PAGEANT. IN THE EVENT THAT I AM CROWNED QUEEN, I WILL MAKE EVERY REASONABLE EFFORT TO ABIDE BY ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS LAID FORTH.

    I AM AWARE THAT THERE IS POSSIBILITY OF INJURY TO MYSELF AS THE CONTESTANT WHILE PARTICIPATING IN THE CONTEST AND DURING THE DUTIES AND ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE CONTEST, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO; PUBLIC APPEARANCES, RODEOS, AND TRAVELING TO VARIOUS EVENTS. I SHALL NOT NOW OR ANY TIME IN THE FUTURE, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, COMMENCE OR PROSECUTE ANY ACTION, SUIT, OR OTHER PROCEEDINGS AGAINST THE GRANDE PRAIRIE BOARD OF DIRECTORS, MISS GRANDE PRAIRIE STOMPEDE QUEEN COMMITTEE, THE JUDGES, CONTEST SPONSORS, AND ANY AND ALL PEOPLES ASSOCIATED WITH THE PAGEANT SO RELEASED ARISING OUT OF, OR RELATED TO, THE CLAIMS, DEMANDS, LIABILITIES, AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES SO DISCHARGES, WAIVED, AND RELEASED BY THE APPLICANT.
